5km Event & Kids Fun Run info:
The 5km event starts and finishes at UNIS, and takes place entirely within the Ciputra estate. The route passes the main water stop twice, so there is plenty of opportunity to take on fluids, important if the day turns out to be hot and sunny (like 2011).
We love the Kids Fun Run!! Inpsired children have the chance to race a specially made course around the playing fields of UNIS school. This event takes place mid-morning when all the grown-ups have completed the other races.

Course description:
Song Hong is a unique street-running event which provides a little bit of everything that Hanoi has got to offer. Starting out at UNIS, the first 6kms take place entirely within the pristine grounds of Ciputra estate, before heading out into the streets of Hanoi proper. After KM7, runners hit the lakeside road greeted by the spectacular dragon fountain. On 8.5kms those running in the 10km race head back towards Ciputra, while the half marathon runners continue on the lakeside road.
At around 14.5km runners hit the turn-around point outside the Sheraton Hotel, take on some water, and head back along the lake.
All runners cross the finish line inside UNIS grounds.

Song Hong half marathon and 10km race take place on open streets. Runners will be sharing those streets with Hanoi traffic, fishermen and everything else that makes Tay Ho an exciting and vibrant location for one of South East Asia’s most exhilarating running events! Hanoi Red River Runners is a volunteer organisation and you run at your own risk. Make sure that your health / travel insurance covers you for this activity.

I registered for the race yesterday. During the registration process, there is one option about extra t shirt. Does the word extra means that there is one shirt already included and if I want to have more, I have to pay?

  2. RicC. says:

    How do I register?

  3. RicC. says:

    I found it. Signed up.

  4. John Witton says:

When is kit collection open until on Saturday – I’m trying to book flights and will be arriving Sat..

  5. Cheryl and James says:

We are competitive runners from the USA and would like some more info on the 10k race. Can we pick up the race number the day of race? What is the best transportation option from the old quarter of Hanoi to the race start/finish? Is there a escort for the race leader so he does not get lost? (My husband will likely be the leader). Thank you so much!

  6. Hi Cheryl – Thanks for your message!
What time will your husband be aiming for? There is no race kit pick-up on the day due to our early start. You need to collect on Saturday afternoon at UNIS school (which is also start and finish point for the races). Or you can ask someone to collect it on your behalf. You can take a taxi to UNIS from the Old Quarter, it takes about 20mins depending on traffic.
There will be a course map posted online and course markings and arrows at major turns. The race takes place on open streets. There is no escorts for leaders. Please give me your email address and we can discuss further.

    • Cheryl and James says:

Thanks for your reply! James will be aiming for a sub-35 10k. Can I get your email address for a private chat? We look forward to meeting the Hanoi Red River Runners!

  8. Grant says:

Is it possible to change distances after having registered? Is there any additional fee? I thought twice, came to the conclusion now that 21k may be too much and would like to run 10k only.

    • Hi Grant – no problem and no additional fee. If you signed-up online then come and see us at the race kit pick-up on Saturday afternoon 8th and we’ll work it out. If you signed-up in Elite Fitness I can do it for you here in advance. Just leave another message here confirming how you signed up.

  9. Lionel says:

I just registered online for the race, but where is the place to collect my race pack on saturday 8th december?
At what time the races will begin?
    Thanks.
    Lionel

  10. Minh Hà says:

Would you recommend driving the course in advance? Would there be signs/posts to guide first-time runners along?

Also what time can I pick up my race kit on Sat afternoon? What time should I be there (UNIS schools?) Sunday morning?

    Cheers!

    • Hi Ha, If you have time to drive the course before the race, then I would recommend it. We will have some signage and paint on the roads, and we will try to have volunteers at the major turns. Race kit pick-up is on from 12:30 – 3:30pm at UNIS on Saturday afternoon. The races start at 8am on Sunday, gates open at 7am.

  11. feddybecks says:

Can’t wait until the race day ^^ I’ve heard that Hanoi is really cold these days. I live in Ho Chi Minh with hot weather all year round, a bit afraid there will be a big difference running in Hanoi. Any special tips for running under cold weather, appreciate if you could share us some.

    • Sune says:

      Hi,
As a regular Ha Noi runner, I can say a few words..

It’s normally fine to run in Singlet or T-Shirt and shorts. Not many wear long sleeves as you will build up a sweat quickly. The temperature is actually not that cold, but because of the humidity it feels cold when standing still, so bring something to wear before (during warmup) and afterwards.

Last year was fresh and clear!

  12. Kim says:

Hello! I just got the email for race pick up kits for Saturday. The email specified 10k and half marathon pick ups. I registered for the 5k and purchased a tshirt — is there a race pickup for the 5K and when can I pick up my tshirt? thanks!

  13. ruolngulworld says:

    Hi,
I am planning a short trip out of Hanoi on 8 Dec and may not be back before 3:30pm to collect the race kit at UNIS. Could I send my receipt with a friend, who’s also taking part in the race, and have him collect the kit on my behalf?

  14. Do Trong Nhan says:

Hi. I have just collected my race shirt ( size s) But when I get home and try, it seems to be size S of European :)). Can I change to size XS on Sunday. Thx a lot

  15. Richard L. Cammer says:

I picked up race packets for myself and several other people, I just realized 2 of the 5K packets have no T-shirts, which were paid for.

    1. Bada Erdogan
    2. Deborah Estanisiao

Please have them available in the morning.

    Thanks.

    Ric

  16. Cheryl and James says:

Thank you Jody and all of the Red River Runners for hosting a fun and well organized race! We really enjoyed meeting everyone and had a fantastic experience racing in Hanoi! We will be sure to tell all our running friends in California. Cheers!

  17. Ernesto says:

Hello. I would like to know if there is going to be a Half Marathon in Hanoi next december like in 2012. I am living in Sweden so I need to plan ahead. Thank you.

    • Hi Ernesto – sorry for delay, we hope to schedule Song Hong 2013 on the weekend of December 7/8 but at this moment nothing is confirmed. Our race is completely organised by volunteers so we need first to figure out logistics. Sorry I can’t be more accurate at this point 😦
